[fsccouncilexec] Important Reminder: Be Mindful This Labor Day Weekend

Dear Chapter Presidents/Council Executives,

I just sent a short text version of this message via FLARE, so you may have already seen it. However, I wanted to follow up with a more formal note before I, too, head out to enjoy hopefully better weather into the weekend.

As we approach the Labor Day weekend, I want to remind everyone of the importance of being good neighbors and adhering to our community standards. Chapter facility noise complaints are taken seriously and could result in an inconvenient meeting with myself and the Director of Conduct next week. If your chapter becomes the subject of such complaints, it could also lead to your chapter becoming a new name (for wrong reasons), on the Dean of Students’ radar or in extreme cases our new Vice Provost —something I’m sure you’d prefer to avoid.

Please be mindful of your surroundings and respectful of your neighbors. If any noise complaints or reports of unregistered events make it to my office—especially if they involve non-members and/or alcohol—there could be significant consequences, including the potential suspension or removal of your fall recruitment efforts.

I want everyone to enjoy this extended weekend, but it’s crucial that this is done responsibly. This means that chapter activities should not involve alcohol or any form of “drinking games,” including those with water or substitutes. Let’s work together to ensure this weekend is free of any noise complaints or reports of unregistered social events.

Consider this a proactive and courteous reminder—let’s make sure we don’t jeopardize our standing. Please don’t let this become an issue for our community.

With that said, please keep in mind the following tips as you enjoy the holiday weekend. We’ll also be sharing these on FLARE/IG, but please consider forwarding them to your member listservs:

1.       Celebrate Responsibly: If you choose to celebrate with friends and family, do so responsibly. Follow all local guidelines and emergency protocols to ensure everyone’s safety.

2.       Designated Drivers: If you plan on driving, always have a designated driver or arrange for alternative transportation, such as ride-sharing services. Never drink and drive.

3.       Stay Hydrated: Whether you’re spending time outdoors or indoors, remember to stay hydrated, especially if the weather is warm.

4.       Practice Social Responsibility: Please consider your neighbors and the Troy community by keeping noise levels to a minimum and respecting their need for peace and quiet.

5.       Take Care of Each Other: Look out for your members, friends, and fellow students. If someone needs assistance or seems unwell, offer your help or call for medical assistance if necessary.

6.       Have a Plan: Make sure you have a plan for the weekend, including where you’ll be and how you’ll get home safely.

Let’s stand united in making wise decisions, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of everyone in our fraternity and sorority community this Labor Day weekend. Wishing you a fantastic holiday filled with laughter, relaxation, and unforgettable moments.

Best,
